BNP Leader Builds a Residence on the Forcibly Occupied Landed Property of the Ancestral Home of Martyr Dr. Jyotirmoy Guhathakurata.

Vorer Kagoj, 30 December 2002: Barisal Correspondent.  Defying a court injunction even during the month of December, glorified as the victory month of the War of Liberation, BNP leader Tariq Ukil built a residence on the forcibly occupied landed property of the ancestral home of the liberation war martyr Dr. Jyotirmoy Guhathakurata. The Government Official responsible for handling the issues of forgery and forcible occupation of the parental home site of the martyr expressed his helpless-inability to do anything about it. He advised the family of the martyr to get help from the police department.

According to reliable local sources and the family of the martyr a detailed description of the misdeeds, falsification of documents, forgery and forcible occupation of the ancestral home and memoirs of the martyr professor of Dhaka University Dr. Jyotirmoy Guhathakurta was published, with pictures, in The Daily Vorer Kagoj (a National Newspaper published from Dhaka) on the Intellectual Martyr's Day, December14, 2002.

On December 27, 2002, just 12 days after the publication of the news in The Vorer Kagoj, the destroyers of the ancestral home of the great martyr built a tin-shed house on the ruins of destroyed home site. The forcible occupier and destroyer of the memory of the great martyr did not even bother to hide his name. The leader of the miscreants and a BNP leader, Tariqul Islam (alias Tariq Ukil, an advocate), hanged his professional nameplate on the illegally built house. Moreover, all these acts of forgery, forcible occupation and building of a house continued while there is a  stay-order from the court in effect pending judgment of the case filed previously by the martyr's family.

Although the Executive Officer of the Upazila (sub-district) was given the responsibility of investigations of the lawsuits filed by the martyrs family on 22 April 2002 and 2 December 2002, no report has been published yet. The Upazila Executive Officer of Banaripara, when contacted, refused to say or do anything about this BNP and miscreant leader Tariq Ukil. He advised the harassed victim family of the martyr to contact the court and police department. Attempts to contact the Upazila Executive Officer on 29 December 2002 at his office and home were unsuccessful.
